ROCKY MOUNT, NC (FEB 04, 2019) – Channellock, Inc., will participate in SkillsUSA Appreciation Day and SkillsUSA Day in North Carolina as an official lead sponsor of SkillsUSA Week. SkillsUSA Week will take place Feb. 3-9, 2019. Channellock, Inc., will be present at both Appreciation Day and SkillsUSA Day events at schools in North Carolina.
“We are excited to be so involved with SkillsUSA Week,” said Ryan DeArment, vice president of sales and marketing at Channellock, Inc., and fifth-generation family operator. “At Channellock, we believe strongly in the value of career and technical education. SkillsUSA Week is a great way for students to promote the program and share their accomplishments with the community.”
SkillsUSA Week is an annual celebration that gives state associations, advisors and students the opportunity to promote the program and celebrate their achievements at local and state levels.
“SkillsUSA Week is all about celebrating the people involved in this program,” said Tim Lawrence, SkillsUSA executive director. “They work extremely hard throughout the year and this is a great way to celebrate each student’s successes in SkillsUSA while also promoting career and technical education programs like SkillsUSA.”
Appreciation Day
Channellock, Inc., attended Appreciation Day on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, in Rocky Mount, N.C. at Nash Community College. Appreciation Day is designed to celebrate and honor the support of SkillsUSA advisors, teachers and administrators.
Dr. Bill Carver, president of Nash Community College (NCC) in Rocky Mount, N.C., was honored during the Appreciation Day Pep Rally. Dr. Carver named a road on the NCC campus after SkillsUSA. Students, advisors and Dr. Carver took a photo near the renamed road, “Skills Way,” before attending a SkillsUSA pep rally.
Peyton Holland, the executive director of SkillsUSA North Carolina, spoke during the pep rally as a key member of the SkillsUSA chapter in North Carolina. Army Sergeant Michael Beck also from Rocky Mount and a Homes For Our Troops Veteran, shared his story with the students of Nash Community College. SGT Beck sustained injuries from combat and received a home from Homes For Our Troops in 2015.
Channellock, Inc., participated in the pep rally by touring the classrooms, conducting student and teacher interviews and reviewing the welding and machining programs of Nash Community College. Dr. Carver recognized contestants, state medalists and national rankings of SkillsUSA.
SkillsUSA Day
Channellock, Inc., representatives will be present for the SkillsUSA Day event in Conover, N.C hosted by Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019. SkillsUSA Day is focused on celebrating SkillsUSA students and recognizing their accomplishments.
CVCC will host its SkillsUSA Day as a 2019 recipient of the SkillsUSA Week grant. SkillsUSA Week grants are up to $1,000 sponsored by Channellock, Inc., and Toyota.
Sergeant Donald Walters, Jr., is an Army Veteran of Charlotte, N.C. SGT Walters will speak at the SkillsUSA Day event at CVCC. In 2017, SGT Walters was given a home by Homes For Our Troops after he was exposed to chemicals that resulted in Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. SGT Walters served as an Infantryman in Iraq for two tours.

About Homes For Our Troops
Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).
